Tests and skills assessed
The TCF for the general public is composed of two types of tests: the compulsory tests and the complementary (optional) tests. They are broken down as follows:
- Compulsory tests (1h25): oral comprehension, mastery of language structures and written comprehension
- Complementary tests (optional ): oral expression (12 minutes) and/or written expression (1 hour)
Public and levels assessed
The public concerned by this test is composed of older teenagers and adults wishing to evaluate their level forstudy, personal or professional reasons. The TCF places candidates on one of the 6 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The TCF Tout Public is also recognized by the competent authorities for :
- Access to French nationality: passing the compulsory tests and the complementary oral expression test;
- Immigration to Quebec: passing the mandatory tests and the complementary written and oral expression tests.
Please note: it is possible to take the test more than once, provided that there is a 30-day gap between two registrations.

PRACTICAL
Next sessions in Lille
The next tests take place every Friday:
- Friday, October 14, 2022 (registration before 04/10/2022, i.e. 10 days before the exam)
- Friday, October 21, 2022 (registration before 11/10/2022, i.e. 10 days before the exam)
- Friday, October 28, 2022 (registration before 04/10/2022, i.e. 18 days before the exam)
- and every following Friday...etc.
Please note: it is possible to take the test more than once, provided that there is a 30-day gap between two registrations.
The rates
The registration fees for the TCF in our center are as follows:
- Compulsory tests: 100€.
- Optional test of written expression: 45 €.
- Optional test of oral expression: 55 €.
The full fee must be paid when you submit your application. If you do not take the exam, the fees will not be refunded. In case of major impossibility, a postponement to the next session (outside of the 30 days mandatory delay between each registration) may be accepted if proof of absence is provided to the school within 3 days following the session (illness: medical certificate; transportation difficulties: delay or strike).
